The 16th Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is taking place at Cali (Colombia) from Monday 21th October to Friday 1th November, 2024. The first COP to implement the Kunming-Montreal Framework (two years after the agreement reached in 2022 to preserve 30% of the world’s land and sea by 2030), this COP will be an opportunity for countries to present their national biodiversity strategies and action plans (NBSAPs).
The 11th meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties (MOP) to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (CP-MOP-11) and the fifth MOP to the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and Fair and Equitable Sharing of the Benefits Arising out of their Utilization (NP-MOP-5) will also meet on this occasion.
Our events and advocacy work will focus on the convergence of the climate and biodiversity agendas and on ecological connectivity. The Climate Chance Observatory has just published an analysis note entitled « Leveraging the Climate-Biodiversity-Land nexus in a triple-COP year », examining the issues at stake at the Biodiversity COP. A further note on biodiversity credits will also be published and presented at the COP.
COP16 is an opportunity for the International Coalition on Biodiversity Corridors in Africa, which Climate Chance coordinates and acts as the secretariat for, to convene its strategic steering committee to present its progress and define its roadmap for 2025.
Ronan Dantec, President of the association, and Alice Malek, Biodiversity Project Director, will be representing Climate Chance at COP16.
